Late 40s/ Early 50s Mercury Hermes Lady’s Bike: American Export Model

Late 40s/ Early 50s Mercury Hermes Lady’s Bike: American Export Model

This Mercury Hermes Lady’s Bicycle turned up in New York.

In Britain, the Hermes model name was used on Mercury’s scooters rather than on bicycles. Looking at the style of the bicycle, I think it pre-dates the Hermes scooter. The head badge is the same as the Mercury bicycle badge except that the name ‘Hermes’ replaces the name ‘Mercury.’

The bicycle itself is not unusual, as it’s similar to British bikes such as the BSA Lady’s Sports Tourist illustrated below (the complete 1938 BSA catalogue can be seen on – PLEASE CLICK HERE)

You can see a similar curiosity below – Norman Export Model Gents and Lady’s bikes badged as Western Flyers, an American brand name.

Likewise, you can compare the Hermes transfer with the similar Mercury ones on my 1948 Mercury Military Roadster.
